Congratulations to our own Teresa Scott, winner of the University of Arkansas Employee of the Year Award 2008-2009 for Category I – Professional /non-faculty – academic. Teresa has been an advisor in the Fulbright College Advising Center for almost four years. Way to go Teresa!
On April 17, 2009, The Arkansas Academic Advising Network (ArkAAN) presented Trevor Francis with the "Outstanding Academic Advisor" award for 2009. Trevor is the Associate Director of the Fulbright Advising Center here at the University of Arkansas. He has been a part of the advising center team for almost five years, and has also earned a doctorate in Higher Education Leadership at the university. Some of the qualities ArkAAN looks for in a potential recipient of the award are "a strong interpersonal skills; a caring, helpful attitude toward advisees, facutly and staff; mastery of institutional regulations, policies, and procedures; and the ability to engage in, promote, and support developmental advising." This is the third such recognition for an advisor in the Fulbright College Advising Center. Director Dave Dawson and Premedical Advisor Jeanne McLauchlin have previously won similar awards.
On April 20th, at the 2009 Order of Omega Awards Ceremony, Jill Geisler Wheeler was presented with the "Order of Omega Outstanding Faculty Member Award." This recognition is given to a member of the faculty who has made extraodinary contributions to the University. According to Parice Bowser, Director of Greek Life, said that Jill "has had a tremendous impact on students at the U of A. Her passion and love for advising is evident, and she has inspired many students to learn and succeed." Jill has been an advisor in the Fulbright College Advsing Center for almost 3 years, and has worked for the U of A for over 4. She is also an alumna having earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree from the university.
At the Arkansas Academic Advising Network's annual conference held on April 17th, Trevor Francis, Dr. Jeanne McLachlin, and Shane Barker gave a presentation entitled: "Recession Proof Careers: Advising Students for Allied Health Professions and Medical School." At the conclusion of the conference, the presentation was named "Best in State" for 2009. This winner of this award is chosen each year by ArkAAN members who attend the conference. The presentation named "Best in State" automatically qualifies for the National Academic Advising Association's annual conference for this region, which will be held in Kansas in 2010. All three presenters are advisors in the Fulbright College Advising Center. Trevor Francis is associate director, Dr. Jeanne McLachlin is associate director for the premedical program, and Shane Barker advises Pre-Allied Health majors among other areas.
