My Graduation Requirements

Check My Progress

Degree Progress Checks (DPC): A Degree Progress Check (DPC) is an informal degree audit review in which I meet with my advisor to go over my progress toward my degree. My advisor will review with me certain graduation rules as well as what courses I need toward my core and major requirements.

Departments: My departmental advisor can explain to me my major and, if applicable, minor requirements for my degree plan.

Graduation Requirement Checksheet: My graduation requirement checksheet helps me to track my progress toward graduation.

My Rules to Remember

Residency/30 Hour Rule (University Requirement)

Students must complete the full senior year in residence unless they are a senior and have already met the minimum residency requirement. The minimum residency requirement is 36 weeks and 30 semester hours. Residency for the senior year is defined as a period during which students must be enrolled in courses offered on the campus in Fayetteville. This is intended to provide students adequate contact with the University and its faculty.

If students have already met the minimum residency requirement, they may earn no more than 12 of the last 30 hours toward their degree in extension or correspondence courses or in residence at another accredited institution granting the baccalaureate degree. No more than six of these 12 hours may be correspondence courses.

Colleges and departments have the authority to prescribe residence requirements that exceed those described here, so students should check with their departmental advisor to see what, if any, additional residency requirements their degree may have. Fulbright College requires that no fewer than 30 hours of credit must be in courses offered by the college.

8 Hour Rule
Students may submit no more than eight semester credit hours from the following list of course alpha codes. Students may use these courses for degree credit only with the specific recommendation of their advisor.

AEED - Agricultural and Extension Education
*DEAC - Dance Education Activity
AGAD - Agricultural Administration
*PEAC - Physical Education Activity
EXED - Extension Education
*AERO - Aerospace Studies
HLSC - Health Science
*MILS - Military Science
HLED - Health Education
RECR - Recreation
IRED - Instructional Resources
PHED - Physical Education
OFSM - Office Systems Management
VOED - Vocational Education

*No more than four of the eight hours may be applied from AERO, MILS, PEAC,
or DEAC (combined), unless a student completes an ROTC program and
receives a commission.

24 Hour Rule (Fulbright College Requirement)

To graduate from Fulbright College, students must complete at least 24 hours of 3000 and 4000 level courses from departments in Fulbright College.

40 Hour Rule

Students must present for degree credit at least 40 hours of work in courses numbered 3000 and above. Students may also include in these 40 hours courses numbered 2000 that have a specific course as a prerequisite. For example, ENGL 2003, ECON 2013, GEOL 1133/1131L, and MATH 2043 all have a specific course as a prerequisite.

However, some 2000 level courses do not count, such as: MILS 2001 and 2011, AERO 2001 and 2011, or foreign language courses numbered 2003 and 2013.

Finally, courses taken from other colleges or universities that meet the requirements described above may be included in the 40 Hour Rule.

68 Hour Rule

Students who have transferred into the University may present for degree credit no more than 68 hours of lower division course work (1000 and 2000 level courses).

124 Hour Rule

Students must present a minimum of 124 credit hours to receive the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, or Bachelor of Science degree. Students must present a minimum of 128 hours to receive the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Writing Requirement
To graduate from Fulbright College, students must write a research/analytical paper for at least one upper division course (3000 or 4000 level) in my major. Satisfactory completion of an honors project or a senior thesis may fulfill this requirement. Each department has determined its own procedures for certifying completion of this requirement. Students should refer questions about the writing requirement to their departmental chairperson.
"D" Rule

Students with grades of "D" in more than 25 percent of the hours presented for graduation credit will not be allowed to graduate.
